Major Auctions in the Northeast continue to Exceed Expectations

When it comes to Collector Car Auctions in the Northeast, it use to be that enthusiasts only had a few options to choose from, such as the regional Atlantic City event and the high end Sotheby’s Hershey event.

However, all that began to change in July 2014 when MECUM AUCTIONS came to Harrisburg, Pa. The results for their inaugural event exceeded expectations with 735 vehicles sold of the 1000+ offered for total sales over $20m exceeding any prior inaugural Mecum event. Mecum experienced similar enthusiasm and results in July 2015 with total sales again exceeding $20m.

I personally attended both events and I can state first hand that the dockets had a nice variety to satisfy every budget, and there were plenty of concours quality vehicle for buyers and spectators alike. In addition, the crowds were large and energetic with standing room only during the prime auction hours.

June 2016 saw BARRETT-JACKSON kickoff their inaugural event at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT where they also experienced their own record setting results for an inaugural three-day event which included number of consignments, registered bidders, attendees and sales of $25m. The attendance of more than 90,000 also resulted in an unprecedented sellout of tickets within the opening hours.

Here are some of my favorites from Barrett-Jackson Northeast auction-

1965 Pontiac GTO- $66,000

1966 Chevrolet Corvette 427- $81,400

1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88-  $624,800

1946 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible- $104,500

The next Northeast Auction on the calendar is Mecum Harrisburg July 21-23, 2016. Here are a few favorites that I’ll be watching-

1965 Pontiac GTO

1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429

1968 Shelby GT500

1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30

1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

After Mecum, the next northeast auctions on my target list is the Fall Carlisle Auction on September 29 & 30, 2016. The auction is held in conjunction with the five-day Fall Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet and Car Corral which runs September 28 – October 2, 2016.

If you’re into Pre-War cars and you have deep pockets, then don’t miss the world class RM Sotheby’s auction in Hershey, PA on October 6 & 7 2016 which is held during the annual AACA Eastern Divisional Fall Meet in Hershey, Pa (October 5 – 8, 2016).  Last year, RM Sotheby’s Hershey auction drew bidders from 20 countries and posted their best Hershey results at $16.3m in total sales.
